Artist & Director

After a ten year career in the contemporary gallery industry in Cheshire, working as a curator and sales consultant alongside producing art, Bespoke One director Eve Flanagan became more and more driven by how art and interiors work in conjunction with each other. Through visiting the many homes of clients as part of the home approval service to place art in situ, Eve’s eyes were opened into understanding the importance of a holistic approach to art and design in the context of its space and setting. Upon seeing how creative and exciting spaces have the potential to be from an artistic perspective, Eve has been exploring how functional products can be produced with art & design and creativity at the forefront.

‘I found when working in the gallery setting that there is a real barrier for some people in visualising how art can be placed in their home and even whether it is important to have a piece of artwork at all. In my mind art is enriching, whether it evokes an emotion, relaxes you, excites you, makes you smile or is thought provoking in some way, art is an important part of the world around us. And, it does not always need to be in the form of a framed painting’

Since becoming involved with several bespoke commercial projects which took Eve away from the gallery space and into hospitality environments which involved working hands-on with the production side and collaborating with artisans, makers and designers, Eve saw how a new creative business could evolve which combined both function and art.

‘To use two opposing design aesthetics as an example, Minimalism and Maximalism, the products we produce here at Bespoke One certainly lean towards the Maximalist approach. We are inspired by rich textures, colour, pattern and we love to incorporate a myriad of cultural influences into our designs.’

Eve’s background originates from Fine Art after graduating with a BA Hons degree in 2002. After life and travelling took her on paths working abroad and in different industries, Eve’s enduring creative drive brought her back to her love of art and she subsequently completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Art Education and became a teacher.

‘I’m at a very exciting stage in my life now launching Bespoke One. The wealth of knowledge I have gained through working in the many different aspects of art-based industries has been immeasurable. From teaching techniques to school children, to encouraging people to inject bold creativity into their homes, my love of art, the desire to create so that others can enjoy and embrace it feels more important now than ever. It would be a very dull world without it.’
